Alleged Arrest of Farouk Ozigi Onimisi: Wife Narrates Ordeal
The wife of Mr. Farouk Ozigi Onimisi has recounted the circumstances surrounding her husband’s alleged arrest, describing a sequence of events that began on Saturday evening and culminated in his reported transfer to Lokoja.
According to her account, Mr. Onimisi received a phone call from a woman believed to be known to him, although she reportedly used an unfamiliar number. During the conversation, he inquired about her location and subsequently informed her he would meet her at the spot she indicated.
The wife said that shortly after the call, her husband left home but did not return that night. Repeated attempts to reach him by phone were unsuccessful, despite the line ringing.
She further disclosed that on Sunday, she received a call from an individual who identified himself as a police officer, informing her that her husband had been arrested and was being held at the Kubwa Phase 4 Police Station in Abuja.
Upon receiving the information, she said she immediately proceeded to the station, only to be told on arrival that he had already been transferred to Lokoja.
While at the station, she said she received another call from a different officer, who confirmed that her husband was en route to Lokoja.
She added that she was briefly allowed to speak with him during the call, during which he urged her to remain calm, stating that he was being taken to Lokoja. When asked about the reason for his arrest, he reportedly said he was unaware of any offence.
The wife further claimed that on Monday morning, she received additional information alleging that her husband’s arrest was ordered by the Kogi State Accountant General, purportedly in connection with his involvement in leading a support group to the Ohinoyi Palace in the previous week.
As of the time of filing this report, authorities have yet to issue an official statement regarding the arrest or the allegations surrounding it.
Meanwhile, concerned individuals have called for calm and due process, urging relevant authorities to clarify the circumstances of the arrest and ensure that justice is served in accordance with the law.
