There was tension in Toto Local Government Area of Nasarawa State on Tuesday as the member representing Toto/Nasarawa Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Mohammed Abdulmumini Ari, was reportedly booed by residents during a visit to the area

Eyewitnesses said scores of youths, women, and elders gathered at the venue chanting “Baza Muyi Ka Ba”, a local expression loosely translated as “we will not support you for a third term.”

The development occurred during the lawmaker’s ongoing consultation tour ahead of future political engagements.

Notably absent at the gathering were key stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC), including local government party officials, the council chairman, councillors, and other party executives.

Hon. Ari, who addressed a handful of supporters at the Toto Youth Centre, was met by a group of aggrieved constituents who accused him of failing to deliver meaningful dividends of democracy during his seven years in the National Assembly. The protesters reportedly demanded that he leave the area.

Following the hostile reception, the lawmaker was said to have cut short his visit, expressing disappointment with his coordinators for allegedly misrepresenting the political mood in the locality.

He further alleged that the protest was orchestrated by a political figure within the local government, whom he accused of mobilising opposition against him.

“I know the person behind this. He has not forgiven me over my role in the 2023 elections. The people of Toto Local Government love me, but today he has turned them against me,” Ari was quoted as saying.
