Benue: Asom Jerry Presents ‘10 Unforgettable Lies’ to Gov Alia on 60th Birthday

A Benue State-born media personality, Asom D. Jerry, has stirred reactions online after presenting what he described as “10 unforgettable lies” allegedly told by Governor Hyacinth Alia in his three years in office.

In a statement posted on Facebook on Friday to mark the governor’s 60th birthday, Jerry accused the Benue governor of failing to fulfill several campaign promises and making claims he described as misleading.

Among the issues raised was Governor Alia’s earlier pledge to return internally displaced persons (IDPs) to their ancestral homes within his first 100 days in office. According to Jerry, the promise was not achieved, alleging instead that more IDP camps are being established in the state.

He also referenced the governor’s promise to clear salary and pension arrears within 100 days, noting that local government workers in the state are currently on strike over welfare-related issues.

Jerry further alleged that Governor Alia failed to reinstate workers disengaged during the administration of former Governor Gabriel Suswam, despite previous assurances to do so.

On insecurity, the media personality faulted the governor’s repeated claims of restoring peace across the state, insisting that attacks and killings have continued in several communities.

He also questioned the administration’s commitment to local government autonomy and accused the governor of making contradictory statements regarding state finances and political disagreements within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Benue State.

Referencing the killings in Yelewata, Jerry criticized the governor’s casualty figure of 59 deaths, insisting that the number did not reflect the scale of the tragedy reported by residents and observers.

He further claimed that despite increased federal allocations to states following fuel subsidy removal, the Alia administration has not delivered significant infrastructural projects in the last three years.
