DELTA 2027: Peace in Warri More Important Than My Political Ambition — Mulade

Renowned peace ambassador, development advocate, and Delta State politician, Comrade Sheriff Mulade, PhD, has expressed concern over the growing tension and rising ethnic sentiments in Warri and its environs, warning that such developments could undermine peace and development in the area.

Mulade, who contested in the recent party primaries on the platform of the NDC, decried the actions of individuals allegedly fueling ethnic divisions, blackmail, and inflammatory rhetoric following the outcome of the exercise.

He urged political actors and their supporters to focus on strengthening party unity and preparing for the 2027 general elections rather than engaging in activities capable of threatening the peace of the region.

According to him, it has become necessary to appeal to all residents and stakeholders to prioritize unity, peaceful coexistence, and sustainable development in Warri and its surrounding communities.

He noted that a peaceful atmosphere would not only attract investments but also create employment opportunities for the teeming youth population, especially in Warri, regarded as the commercial hub of Delta State.

The Ibe-Sorimowei of the ancient oil-rich Gbaramatu Kingdom in Warri South-West Local Government Area commended the Itsekiri, Ijaw, Urhobo, and other ethnic groups in the Warri Federal Constituency for maintaining peace despite what he described as provocative statements and acts of incitement in some quarters.

Mulade stressed that the preservation of peace and stability in Warri remains far more important than any personal political aspiration.

“Peace in Warri and its environs is more important than my ambition. No political interest is worth sacrificing the unity, stability, and progress of our people,” he stated.

He therefore called on residents to reject ethnic bias, hatred, and divisive tendencies capable of triggering conflict, urging all groups to embrace harmony, mutual respect, and collective development.

The development advocate also appealed to the people of Warri to continue promoting peaceful coexistence and collaborative efforts while supporting the administration of Delta State Governor in delivering critical infrastructure and other dividends of democracy to the people.

“No meaningful development can thrive in an atmosphere of crisis and conflict. Peace remains the foundation upon which progress, prosperity, and sustainable development are built,” Mulade added.
