“Our Father Did Not Have Diabetes; He Died From Snake Bite” — Daughter of Late Major General Rabe Abubakar
The family of the late Major General Rabe Abubakar (Rtd.) has rejected claims by some government officials that the retired senior military officer died from complications arising from high blood pressure and diabetes while in the custody of kidnappers.
Speaking on the circumstances surrounding his death, one of his daughters, Adda Donna Abubakar, dismissed reports linking her father’s death to diabetes, insisting that such claims were false and misleading.
In a post on her X (formerly Twitter) account, Adda alleged that inaccurate information was being circulated regarding the cause of death of the retired general.
According to her, Major General Abubakar did not suffer from diabetes and died after being bitten by a snake while being held captive by his abductors.
“Our father did not have diabetes. The narrative being pushed about him dying from diabetic complications is not true,” she stated, maintaining that the family wanted the public to know the actual circumstances surrounding his death.
It would be recalled that on May 30, 2026, armed bandits abducted Major General Rabe Abubakar along the Marabar Musawa–Kafinsoli Road in Matazu Local Government Area of Katsina State.
His abduction sparked widespread concern, with many Nigerians, including security stakeholders and community leaders, calling for urgent efforts to secure his release.
However, controversy has continued to trail the circumstances of his death, with conflicting accounts emerging from government officials and family members.
While the Katsina State Government had earlier attributed the retired general’s death to health complications allegedly triggered by high blood pressure and diabetes during captivity, members of his family and sources close to the matter have strongly disputed that account
The family insists that a snake bite sustained while in captivity was the direct cause of his death.
The conflicting narratives have raised questions and intensified calls for clarity regarding the final moments of the retired military officer.
As of the time of filing this report, no independent official investigative report has been released to conclusively establish the exact cause of death.
The absence of a verified investigative report has left room for speculation, even as many Nigerians continue to mourn the tragic loss of the respected retired army officer.
Observers have called on relevant authorities to provide a transparent account of the circumstances surrounding Major General Abubakar’s death in order to dispel misinformation and provide closure to the bereaved family.
