A major political development is unfolding in Toto Local Government Area as cracks appear within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 general elections, following the endorsement of former Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar Adamu, by a prominent APC elders’ forum in the area.

The endorsement has raised fresh questions over the political control of Toto Ward, the home base of the Secretary to the Nasarawa State Government, Barr. Shuaibu Labaran Magaji, amid growing opposition momentum.

APC leader who spoke under condition of anonymity say the development signals increasing division within the APC in Toto LGA, especially following the recent defection of the member representing Toto/Gadabuke State Constituency in the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Hon. Mohammed Garba Isimbabi, from the ruling party.

Isimbabi, now a leading figure in the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in the area, is widely seen as strengthening the opposition’s grassroots influence.

As part of ongoing political mobilization, Hon. Mohammed Garba Isimbabi, alongside other SDP stakeholders, on Thursday received a high-profile delegation led by Hajiya Rukaiya Adamu, popularly known as Kwalliyar Lafia, wife of SDP governorship hopeful, Mohammed Abubakar Adamu.

During the visit to Toto, Hajiya Rukaiya held separate engagements with elders, women, youths, and key stakeholders, including prominent businessman Alhaji Hussaini, Chief Executive Officer of G.B.O.

She also held a closed-door meeting with the Toto Elders Forum, where she outlined the vision and development agenda of the Walin Lafia 2027 Project, aimed at fostering inclusive governance and grassroots-driven development in Nasarawa State.

In a significant political statement, the United and Progressive Forum, led by Alhaji Musa Ozeremi, the father of APC Toto ward c publicly declared support for the governorship ambition of Mohammed Abubakar Adamu ahead of the 2027 elections.

Speaking on behalf of the forum, Alhaji Ozeremi said the group had reached a firm decision to support the former police chief regardless of the political platform he contests under.

“We are card-carrying members of the APC, but we have resolved to support the gubernatorial bid of the former IGP on any platform. If the APC fails to grant him the ticket, we will follow him to whichever political party he chooses,” he said.

He explained that the forum’s decision was based on Adamu’s demonstrated grassroots connection and commitment to community engagement.

“We chose to support the Ex-IGP because he has shown genuine concern for the grassroots-driven. For someone of his stature to personally identify with local communities reflects sincere leadership and a deep understanding of the people’s needs,” Ozeremi added.

Speaking during the engagement, Alhaji Hussaini, CEO of G.B.O, commended Kwalliyar Lafia for the visit, describing it as a demonstration of respect for traditional institutions and community elders.

He offered prayers and goodwill to the delegation while expressing optimism about the future of Toto and Nasarawa State.

In her remarks, Hajiya Rukaiya Adamu thanked the Toto Elders Forum and the United and Progressive Forum for their openness, support, and commitment to the development of Toto LGA and the state at large.

She was accompanied by Hon. Abdul-Aziz Ahmed Baba-Lauya, Coordinator of Toto LGA; and other key stakeholders.
