The Super Falcons of Nigeria will open their training camp for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) on Friday, February 20, as preparations intensify for continental duty later this year.

Head coach Justine Madugu will lead the squad in Abuja before the team travels to Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, for the WAFU B invitational tournament. Ghana and Senegal are also scheduled to take part in the competition, which runs from February 27 to March 7.

The invitational tournament is expected to form a key part of Nigeria’s build-up to the WAFCON, with additional friendly matches planned ahead of the finals. The Super Falcons have been drawn in Group C, where they will face Zambia, Egypt and Malawi in what promises to be a competitive group stage.

However, uncertainty now surrounds the tournament’s schedule following a formal request by Morocco for a postponement. The host nation has written to the Confederation of African Football, citing severe fixture congestion and operational challenges within its domestic football calendar.

Morocco’s Botola Pro league has already experienced multiple disruptions, largely due to the country’s participation in major international competitions such as the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), the African Nations Championship and the Arab Cup. These commitments have reportedly placed pressure on stadium availability, security planning and overall logistics.

CAF has not yet issued an official response, but consultations are believed to be ongoing as the governing body considers a possible revision to the competition timetable.

The stakes remain high, as the 2026 WAFCON will double as a qualification route to the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup. The four semi-finalists will secure automatic tickets to the global showpiece.
