A former Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Solomon Dalung, has criticised the Federal Government over the ongoing trial of former Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami (SAN), demanding that those allegedly involved in terrorism financing should also be prosecuted.

Naija News reports that Dalung made the remarks during an interview with Trust TV, published on Wednesday, while reacting to Malami’s arraignment by the Department of State Services (DSS) before the Federal High Court in Abuja.

Dalung questioned the charges levelled against Malami, stating that if the former AGF is being prosecuted for allegedly refusing to prosecute terror financiers, then those individuals should also be on trial.

He said, “Listening to the charges on the arraignment of former Attorney General, I understood that he is arraigned for refusing to prosecute terrorist financiers.

“We need to have the terrorist financiers in this country arraigned and prosecuted. So, Senior Advocate Malami is arraigned for refusing to prosecute, where are the lists of financiers?”

He referenced earlier intelligence shared with Nigerian authorities, including a list reportedly provided by the United Arab Emirates to former President Muhammadu Buhari, and another allegedly handed over by General Tchiani of Chad to the current administration.

“The financiers list released to President Muhammadu Buhari by the United Arab Emirates; the list released to this government by General Tchiani of Chad, where are the financiers?” Dalung asked.

The former minister argued that Malami should not be standing trial alone, stating that failure to prosecute those behind terrorism defeats the purpose of the ongoing judicial process.

“Why are we having only Malami? We should have had Malami arraigned alongside the financiers,” he insisted.

Dalung also raised concerns over the inclusion of Malami’s son, Abdulaziz, as a co-defendant in the case.

“And I’m tempted to ask, so, his son also refused to advise his father to prosecute the financiers, that’s why he’s arraigned alongside his father?” he queried.

Malami and his son were docked by the DSS on Tuesday on a five-count charge bordering on terrorism financing, aiding and abetting terrorism, and illegal possession of firearms.
