Al-Ittihad Fans Burn Karim Benzema’s Shirt After Shock Move To Al-Hilal

Anger has erupted among Al-Ittihad supporters following Karim Benzema’s controversial transfer to Saudi Pro League rivals Al-Hilal, with some fans burning the striker’s shirts in protest.

Videos and images circulating on social media show frustrated supporters setting fire to jerseys bearing Benzema’s name, expressing their disappointment over his decision to join a direct title rival after spending two and a half seasons at Al-Ittihad.

Benzema, who joined Al-Hilal as a free agent after rejecting a contract renewal from Al-Ittihad, addressed fans in a farewell message posted on 𝕏, reflecting on his time at the club and expressing appreciation for their support.

“This chapter concludes, but the respect and gratitude will remain forever. Thank you to the club, the staff, my teammates, and especially the fans for the welcome, the love, and the energy you gave me every day,” he said.

“This journey provided me with many benefits, both personally and professionally. I leave with my head held high, proud to have worn these colours and proud of everything we shared.

“The growth in followers, reaching 7,000, is a testament to the effectiveness of the leadership approach and the positive impact it has had on the community. Wishing you all the best for what’s ahead. Respect.”

The former Real Madrid captain joined Al-Ittihad in the summer of 2023 and played a major role in the club’s Saudi Pro League title-winning campaign in the 2024-2025 season, alongside stars such as N’Golo Kanté and Fabinho.

Benzema, 38, remains influential on the pitch, scoring 16 goals in 21 appearances across all competitions this season.

However, reports indicate he turned down Al-Ittihad’s contract offer after feeling it undervalued him, a decision that has now sparked backlash among fans who once celebrated him as a club icon.
