Cross River LG Chairman Suspends Two Aides Over Indecent Social Media Videos

The Chairman of Odukpani Local Government Area in Cross River State, Ukpong Asido, has suspended two aides over their roles in social media videos described by the council as indecent and degrading.

Naija News reports that the action took effect on February 9, 2026, following reports that the aides took part in content considered unfit for public officers.

Those affected are Kelvin Okon, a non-statutory special assistant to the chairman, and Edet Okon, the personal assistant to the council secretary. Their suspension is indefinite.

In a statement issued by the chairman, the council said the conduct of the aides went against the standard expected of government officials and violated the oath they swore to serve with discipline and good conduct.

The council confirmed that it now has copies of the videos linked to the matter.

As part of the decision, the two aides have been denied all benefits attached to their positions, including salaries, for as long as the suspension lasts.

The chairman said the move followed the state government’s firm stance against misconduct in public service.

The affected aides were also ordered to return all official documents and government property in their possession to the office of the council secretary within 24 hours.

The council added that relevant authorities have been informed of the development.
