The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has heaped praises on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for what he described as “unmatched leadership courage and reform-driven governance” that Nigeria has not seen in decades. Ganduje made this statement while addressing stakeholders at the APC National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting in Abuja, where he also called for early alignment towards a consensus presidential candidate for the 2027 general elections.
According to the former Kano State governor, President Tinubu’s bold reforms and developmental strides within his first year in office have restored global confidence in Nigeria’s governance trajectory. Ganduje cited Tinubu’s economic policies, infrastructural drive, digital innovations, and renewed foreign relations as core reasons why Nigerians should rally behind him for continuity.
“President Tinubu came in at a time when our economy was struggling. He took bold steps by removing fuel subsidy, unifying exchange rates, and introducing palliative measures to cushion the impact. These are not easy decisions, but they are necessary for long-term growth,” Ganduje said.
He noted that under Tinubu’s leadership, Nigeria has witnessed improvements in the digital economy, evident in the expansion of broadband infrastructure, the empowerment of tech startups, and the strengthening of the Bank of Industry’s funding capacity for small businesses. Additionally, he highlighted the Renewed Hope Infrastructure Initiative that has launched major road and rail projects across the country.
Ganduje also praised Tinubu’s commitment to educational reform and security restructuring, especially the recruitment of thousands of new personnel into the armed forces and police, as well as the establishment of student loan programs for indigent Nigerians seeking higher education.
“Tinubu is not only building roads and bridges; he is rebuilding trust in governance. His administration is promoting fiscal discipline, tackling corruption head-on, and opening doors for young people and women to participate in leadership,” he added.
In his address, Ganduje urged the party to start early consensus-building to avoid internal divisions. “There is no reason for distraction. The achievements of President Tinubu speak for themselves. He is our best chance for 2027, and we must begin now to consolidate that support,” he said.
His call was met with applause from key party leaders, many of whom affirmed their loyalty to the Tinubu administration and supported the idea of sustaining a unified front as 2027 approaches.
The APC is expected to hold zonal consultations in the coming months, where Ganduje’s proposal for a consensus presidential candidate will be deliberated further. Political observers say this move could strengthen party cohesion and minimize the usual pre-election frictions that have plagued the ruling party in previous election cycles.
As the Tinubu administration continues to roll out reforms and national development plans, Ganduje’s endorsement signals a growing momentum within the party to give the President a second mandate to complete what he has started.
