The Yobe State Police Command has launched a manhunt for an 18-year-old housewife in Potiskum, who allegedly mutilated her husband’s manhood with a sharp knife before fleeing the scene.

The shocking incident reportedly occurred at about 1 a.m. on February 6, but was not reported to the police until around 3 p.m. the same day.

In a statement released in Damaturu on Saturday, the command’s spokesman, Dungus Abdulkarim, confirmed the incident and said the suspect is currently on the run.

He said, “Following the report, police operatives promptly visited the scene and rushed the victim to the State Specialist Hospital, Potiskum, for urgent medical attention.

“He was subsequently referred to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Azare, where he is currently receiving treatment.”

The police did not release the names of the couple, citing concerns about trauma and privacy for the victim.

Abdulkarim stated that an investigation had been opened to determine the motive behind the attack and to arrest the suspect, who fled immediately after the act.

“We are working diligently to unravel the circumstances surrounding this grievous assault,” he said, declining to disclose some sensitive details.

Reacting to the incident, Yobe State Commissioner of Police, Emmanuel Ado, condemned the act, describing it as inhumane and unacceptable.

“Marriage must never be an avenue for violence, abuse, or humiliation,” the commissioner said.
