2027: Bashir Gegu “Backs” Aspirants… But Awaits Signal from Above (Video)

In what could pass for a masterclass in political suspense, Kogi State Commissioner for Solid Minerals and Natural Resources, Engr. Abubakar Bashir Gegu, has “clarified” his position ahead of the 2027 elections, by supporting a list of aspirants, while carefully reminding everyone that the real decision is not exactly his to make.

Speaking at a Kogi West stakeholders’ meeting on Monday, Commissioner Gegu unveiled what appeared to be a well-curated lineup of preferred candidates.

The list generously included President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo, senatorial Samuel Aro, House of Representatives Danladi Suleiman Aguye, and a couple of fresh faces for the State Assembly.

For a moment, it seemed like the political cards had been placed firmly on the table.

But just as quickly, the commissioner gently swept them back into the deck.

Gegu clarified that the selections were merely “provisional”, a thoughtful contribution from Kogi Local Government stakeholders, pending what he described as final guidance from the party’s “Supreme leader.”

In other words, the list is important, but not quite important enough. Gegu bluntly told the attendees

The announcement, unsurprisingly, left some attendees blinking in confusion.

Supporters of Samuel Aro and others who had hoped for a decisive endorsement were instead handed a waiting ticket, valid until further notice from higher authorities.

Sources at the meeting hinted at muted discontent, as party faithful grappled with the revelation that even carefully assembled local consensus must still pass through the ultimate approval pipeline.

Undeterred, Gegu reassured everyone that the Kogi LG APC, under his watch, remains fully committed to discipline and loyalty, ready to align instantly with whatever directive eventually descends from the top.

Until then, the “backed” aspirants can only take comfort in knowing they are, at the very least, provisionally supported.
