The political development in Toto Local Government Area is witnessing a dramatic shift ahead of the 2027 general elections, as the opposition Social Democratic Party (SDP) continues to make significant inroads into an area long considered a stronghold of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

The SDP has intensified grassroots mobilization across the 12 electoral wards of Toto LGA, signaling what residents consider as a major political upset in the making.

The SDP leaders have embarked on strategic ward-to-ward engagements aimed at consolidating support and capitalizing on growing dissatisfaction among residents over what they describe as years of neglect by the APC-led administration.

Leading the campaign is Alhaji Mohammed Garba Isimbabi, a serving lawmaker and prominent SDP leader in the area, who, alongside other party chieftains, has spent several days touring communities across the local government.

Residents have increasingly voiced frustration over what they perceive as the abandonment of Toto LGA despite the area’s consistent electoral support for the ruling party in previous elections.

In a major highlight of the tour, Rukaiya Adamu, popularly known as Kwalliyar Lafia, on Thursday concluded a strategic grassroots interface tour of Toto LGA with a final engagement in Toto Ward, the council headquarters and the largest ward in the area.

She was accompanied by Hon. Isimbabi; Abdul-Aziz Ahmed Baba-lauya, Coordinator of Toto LGA; and other key stakeholders.

The delegation received a warm and enthusiastic welcome from residents of Toto Ward, who used the occasion to openly endorse the gubernatorial ambition of former Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Abubskar Adamu, ahead of the 2027 governorship election in Nasarawa State.

Community leaders said their support for the former police chief stems from his demonstrated goodwill, accessibility, and longstanding commitment to the welfare of the people.

“We do not know any other aspirant for governor apart from the former IGP,” a community elder declared. “Our faith teaches us to love those who show us love, and he has consistently demonstrated that through service to humanity.”

Earlier during the tour in Gwargwada Ward, The Delight Association honoured Hon. Isimbabi with an Award of Excellence in recognition of his legislative achievements, particularly his sponsorship of the bill seeking the establishment of the Nasarawa State College of Leadership and Entrepreneurship in Toto, which has successfully passed third reading at the State Assembly.

The grassroots mobilization, which commenced on June 13, 2026, covered all 12 electoral wards in Toto LGA—Dausu, Umaisha, Kanyehu, Shege, Katakpa, Ugya, Shafa Abakpa, Shafa Kwatto, Gwargwada, Buga Karmo, Garagba, and Toto.

Speaking at the closing event, Rukaiya Adamu expressed gratitude to the people of Toto LGA for their warm reception, hospitality, and trust.

Hon. Isimbabi, on his part, reaffirmed his unwavering commitment to the Walin Lafia 2027 project, pledging continued representation and effective service delivery to the people of Toto/Gadabuke Constituency.

Aggrieved APC members believe the growing acceptance of SDP in Toto could significantly reshape the political equation in Nasarawa State ahead of 2027, with the ruling APC struggling to retain its traditional support base.
