2027: Rep. Jeremiah Umaru Resigns from APC, Alleges Manipulation in Party Primaries

A member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Jeremiah Umaru, popularly known as Jakadan Wamba, has resigned his membership of the All Progressives Congress (APC), citing alleged irregularities and manipulation in the party’s recently concluded primary elections.

Hon. Umaru, who represents the Akwanga/Nasarawa Eggon/Wamba Federal Constituency of Nasarawa State, announced his resignation in a letter addressed to the APC Chairman of Gitta Ward in Wamba Local Government Area.

In the resignation letter dated May 28, the lawmaker said his decision was informed by the events and developments surrounding the party’s primary elections, which he described as deeply troubling and contrary to the democratic ideals the APC professes to uphold.

According to him, the conduct of the primaries in Nasarawa State significantly eroded his confidence in the principles of justice, fairness, transparency, and internal democracy.

The federal lawmaker lamented what he termed the growing culture of imposition, manipulation, and disregard for the wishes of party members, noting that such practices have undermined the credibility of the party’s internal processes.

“As a loyal and committed member who devoted considerable time, energy, and resources toward the growth and success of the APC, it is both painful and disappointing to witness the steady erosion of democratic values within the party,” he stated.

Umaru further expressed concern that the aspirations and sacrifices of dedicated party faithful were being ignored, while decisions affecting the future of the party were increasingly dictated by vested interests.

He stressed that he could no longer, in good conscience, remain associated with a system that suppresses fairness, compromises credibility, and fails to respect the collective will of its members.

The lawmaker, however, expressed gratitude for the relationships, experiences, and opportunities he gained during his time in the APC, while wishing members of the party who remain committed to democratic ideals the very best in their future political engagements.

His resignation is expected to add a new dimension to the political realignments already taking shape ahead of the 2027 general elections in Nasarawa State and across the country.
