Supporters of the Obidient movement in Lagos have been urged to reject political aspirants who allegedly depend on the name and reputation of Peter Gregory Obi instead of presenting their own records, competence and policy ideas.

The call was contained in an open letter signed by members of a group identified as Lagos OK Observers.

The group said the disclaimer became necessary following what it described as growing attempts by certain individuals to portray themselves as preferred, anointed or endorsed candidates of Peter Obi ahead of the 2027 political season.

The signatories warned that such claims could mislead voters and create the impression that Obi had personally selected certain candidates.

The group maintained that candidates should emerge through recognised party processes and that supporters should not rely on unverified claims of personal endorsement.

“NDC, like every political party, has its internal processes for candidate selection. Those processes, and not personal name-dropping, remain the legitimate path,” the group said.

The observers urged Obidient supporters to verify every claim of endorsement and demand official communication from recognised party structures.

Warning Against Political Name-Dropping

According to the group, the goodwill associated with Peter Obi and the Obidient movement should not be exploited for individual political advancement.

It said the movement was built around principles including good governance, accountability and national development.

The group argued that genuine support should therefore be demonstrated through integrity, competence and commitment to public service.

It also warned supporters against allowing emotions to influence their choice of candidates.

The statement further raised allegations against some individuals identified by the group as John Ughullu, Eunice and Dr Folaseye.

Among other claims, the signatories alleged unresolved questions concerning campaign funds and agent payments from the 2023 election.

The allegations were not independently verified in the statement.

The group also criticised alleged efforts to establish a 2027 Lagos OK Presidential Campaign Council structure involving individuals it named.

It maintained that the performance of Peter Obi in Lagos during the 2023 presidential election was the result of a collective mobilisation by supporters across the state.

The group consequently rejected any attempt to attribute the result to a small group of individuals.

“We Are Not Doing Vote NDC Top to Bottom”

The observers also warned that supporters should not automatically vote for candidates across all positions simply because they are contesting under the NDC platform.

“We are not doing vote NDC top to bottom. It will not work,” the group stated.

The signatories urged supporters to scrutinise candidates individually and make decisions based on merit and principle.

The statement was signed electronically by Amb. Engr. Chidiebere Egbo Ndukwe, Dr Duke Boniface Roland and Chief Mrs Folashade Oshodi.
