Kano Mobilisation Begins as APC Women Pursue 40 Million Votes for 2027

From Our Correspondent in Kano

The All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council’s women mobilisation machinery has opened a new grassroots front in Kano State, seeking to strengthen community networks ahead of the anticipated 2027 re-election campaign of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima.

The campaign, which forms part of a nationwide initiative led by Dr Betta Edu, Director of Women Mobilisation of the APC Presidential Campaign Council, is being implemented in parts of Kano by Hajiya Maimuna Bello and Hon. Tsakuwa.

Bello announced the commencement of the community-to-community exercise, describing grassroots engagement as an important component of the directorate’s mobilisation activities.

The campaign’s stated national objective is to secure 40 million votes from female supporters, a target that would demand extensive outreach, effective coordination and sustained engagement across communities.

Local Structures at the Heart of the Campaign

One of the reported mobilisation activities took place in Minjibir Local Government Area, where Hon. Tsakuwa gathered hundreds of women for a sensitisation programme.

Participants were encouraged to pursue door-to-door mobilisation, a strategy intended to take campaign messages directly to residents rather than depend exclusively on large political rallies.

Kano’s 44 local government areas provide a broad organisational landscape for the exercise. Bello called on women leaders, political support groups and community stakeholders to participate actively in the directorate’s programmes.

The scale of the ambition makes local organisation particularly important, as campaign coordinators seek to connect state-level activities with the national mobilisation agenda.

Betta Edu’s Leadership and the Women’s Empowerment Message

Bello congratulated Dr Betta Edu on her appointment, expressing confidence that her leadership would improve coordination and expand the reach of the directorate.

She also commended First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu for initiatives aimed at improving women’s welfare, supporting economic empowerment and creating additional opportunities for women.

Reaffirming her commitment to the project, Bello said she would continue working with local structures across Kano State to advance the mobilisation effort.

The unfolding campaign highlights the strategic importance the APC women’s directorate attaches to female political participation. Whether the 40-million-vote ambition can be achieved will ultimately depend on the campaign’s reach, the strength of its grassroots networks and voters’ responses to its message.
