AIBRO: From Udege Village Boy to WHO Ace, Eyes Nasarawa/Toto Seat

Hon. Abdullahi Al-Asi Ibrahim, popularly known as AIBRO, has emerged as a formidable contender for the Nasarawa/Toto Federal Constituency seat, bringing a sterling record of service, leadership, and international expertise to the race.

Born in the historic mining community of Udege Mbeki to the late Alhaji Ibrahim Kwogo Egya (Magayakin Udege), AIBRO was raised in a home that instilled values of hard work, perseverance, and community service.

He kicked off his education at Central Primary School Udege, excelled at Government Secondary School Udege-Mbeki, earning the nickname “Mathematical Obons” and topping his class with a scholastic honours award in maths, and bagged his First School Leaving Certificate.

A brief stint at SPS Keffi (Basic ’90) paved the way to the University of Jos, where he graduated with a Second Class Upper in Business Management in 1994, clinching the Mrs. Dangins’ Award for Best Graduating Student in Business Policy and Strategy.

He later earned an MBA in Accounting and Finance from Benue State University (2005) and a Postgraduate Professional Diploma in Accounts and Audit from the Nigerian College of Accountancy (2007). AIBRO holds memberships in the Association of National Accountants of Nigeria and the Nigerian Institute of Management (Chartered).

His professional edge sharpened through continental training, including PLB Certification on Personal Effectiveness in Brazzaville, Congo (2011); Financial Management and Budgetary Controls in Pretoria, South Africa (2015); and Negotiating in Performance Appraisal in Gaborone, Botswana (2017).

In 2016, he received the WHO Regional Directors’ Award for exceptional contributions to the WHO-Nigeria Country Office Budget and Finance Team.

Career Milestones: Humility to Global Heights

AIBRO’s journey began humbly with NYSC in Cross River State, followed by a security guard role at Plateau Radio Television Corporation in Jos, despite his elite degree,showcasing unmatched dedication.

In 1996, he joined the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Abuja, rising swiftly through exemplary work ethic and advocacy that secured jobs for many from his region.

For 24 years, he has shone at a United Nations agency, notably the World Health Organization (WHO).

Key roles include Operations Specialist in Lebanon, Compliance and Risk Officer in Somalia, Budget Officer at the WHO Africa Regional Office, and Management Officer in Mozambique.

In Nigeria, he served as Finance Officer and currently leads as President of the WHO-Nigeria Staff Association.

There, he mediated staff conflicts, mobilized relief for North East IDPs, and spearheaded a N3.6 billion, 169-unit housing estate project in Abuja, an unprecedented feat.
