The Secretary to the Akwa Ibom State Government, Prince Enobong Uwah, has commenced renewed grassroots engagement with political stakeholders in Uyo Local Government Area ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Uwah, who doubles as the Political Leader of Uyo, hosted stakeholders from the local government at his residence on Wednesday, August 12, where he urged party members to remain united and focused.

The SSG said Uyo was strategically important to the state and expressed confidence that the local government would deliver a stronger electoral performance for Governor Umo Eno and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027.

He conveyed greetings from Governor Eno and thanked the people of Uyo for their support for the administration.

Uwah said the governor deserved continued support because of ongoing development initiatives and opportunities across the state.

“Things are better with Uyo now than in the past. The Governor deserves the support of Uyo people,” he said.

The SSG further expressed confidence in Senator Aniekan Bassey, Hon. Mark Essiet and Hon. Uwemedimo Asuquo, predicting victory for the candidates.

He also called for discipline among party members, warning against activities capable of diverting attention from the administration.

According to him, premature campaigns for the Uyo Local Government chairmanship should be avoided because they could distract the incumbent chairman from governance.

Uwah said he would also meet separately with youths and women to ensure broader participation and engagement in the political process.

The Chairman of Uyo LGA and State ALGON Chairman, Dr. Uwemedimo Udo, praised the initiative, describing stakeholder collaboration as essential to political growth.

Udo disclosed that over 20,000 new voters had been registered in the local government during the recent exercise, describing the development as significant for future political participation.

Hon. Monday Eyo, a former Chairman of the Local Government and Civil Service Commission, also commended the state government for infrastructure development and appointments.

Other participants included Commissioner for Culture and Tourism Dr. Anieti Udofia, Chairman of UCCDA Hon. Anietie Eka, Delivery Adviser on Tourism Sir Charles Udoh, Dean of Permanent Secretaries Mrs. Uduak Eyo Ansa, SSA on Entrepreneurial Development Mr. Ime Uwah, councillors, supervisors and other stakeholders.
