Former Speaker of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Ibrahim Balarabe Abdullahi, has called on voters in Toto Local Government Area to rally behind Dr. Shuaib Faisal in the 2027 Nasarawa West Senatorial election.

Balarabe made the call during a political engagement with his people in Umaisha, where he unveiled his preferred candidates for the 2027 elections.

He said Toto had a strong argument for seeking representation in the Senate, recalling the political history of the area.

According to him, Senator Ibrahim Abubakar was the last person from Umaisha to represent the area in the Senate in 1989 before his victory was overturned in court in favour of Mr. Thomas.

Balarabe said the political opportunity had now emerged for Toto Local Government to seek the senatorial seat again.

“The time has come for Toto Local Government,” he told the gathering while urging constituents to support Faisal.

Albasheer Gets Endorsement

Balarabe also threw his weight behind Mohammed Yerima Albasheer for the Nasarawa/Toto Federal Constituency.

He described Albasheer as his brother and a genuine friend of Toto Local Government.

According to him, the combination of Albasheer at the House of Representatives and Faisal at the Senate would provide an opportunity for stronger representation of the people.

Muntaka Backed for State Assembly

For the Umaisha/Ugya State Constituency, Balarabe called for the election of Muhammed Muntaka.

He criticised the performance of the incumbent lawmaker, Ibrahim Abdullahi Sa’ad, saying that the representative had failed to meet constituents’ expectations.

Balarabe argued that voters should elect legislators who understand their responsibilities and can effectively protect the interests of their constituents.

He drew from his own legislative experience, saying he won elections three times and emerged as Speaker three times.

Balarabe Recalls His Development Record

The former Speaker also recalled his contribution to the development of the constituency.

He listed the facilitation of the 48-kilometre Umaisha/Toto road, construction of school buildings, renovation of schools, electricity interventions, scholarships, youth and women empowerment, transportation support, provision of motorcycles, sewing machines and flyboats, among others.

He also said young people benefited from employment opportunities in the federal and state civil services during his tenure.

₦4m Donation to Women, Youth

Beyond politics, Balarabe announced a ₦4 million donation to women and youth groups in the area.

He said the gesture was aimed at encouraging grassroots groups and supporting their activities.

The donation formed part of the activities during his visit to his country home.
