Bassa Forum Dumps PDP, SDP, ADC for APC in Kogi

— As Bashir Gegu, Barr. Tanko Osuku, others Hail Defection as Boost to Party Ahead of 2027

A significant political shift occurred in Kogi Local Government Area on Sunday as scores of Bassa indigenes from Tawari Electoral Ward defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Social Democratic Party (SDP), and African Democratic Congress (ADC) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

The defectors, under the umbrella of the Bassa Forum, said their decision was driven by the need to align with the “Renewed Hope” agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the development-oriented leadership of Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo.

Speaking on behalf of the group, representatives of the forum explained that the move was aimed at fostering unity, peace, and accelerated development in their communities.

They added that the leadership qualities and grassroots impact of Engr. Abubakar Bashir Gegu played a major role in their decision, pledging their full support and loyalty to the APC.

Addressing the gathering, the Executive Chairman of the Kogi State Civil Service Commission, Barr. Muhammed Tanko Musa Osuku, described the defection as a bold and strategic step.

He noted that the APC remains a welcoming platform for all who are committed to good governance and development.

Barr. Tanko Osuku commended the Bassa Forum for what he termed a timely decision, arguing that opposition parties have continued to lose relevance due to poor performance.

He also described Engr. Bashir Gegu as a leader with exceptional political influence, urging the new members to remain committed and actively contribute to the party’s growth.

In his remarks, Engr. Abubakar Bashir Gegu, Kogi State Commissioner for Solid Minerals and Natural Resources, assured the defectors of equal opportunities within the APC, stressing that the party does not discriminate between old and new members.

He emphasized that loyalty, dedication, and sincerity remain the guiding principles for recognition in the party, encouraging the new entrants to work collectively for the success of the APC and the overall development of Kogi State.

The Commissioner also urged the group to sustain peace and unity in their communities, noting that meaningful development can only thrive in a stable environment.

The event featured colourful cultural displays of Bassa music and the symbolic presentation of APC brooms and flags to the defectors by the Kogi LG APC Chairman, Hon. Abubakar Sadiq Onah, alongside the State APC Deputy Chairman, Alhaji Salihu Gegu.
