Aondoakaa Camp Accuses Alia Government of Intimidating Critics, Demands Accountability Over Benue Security

The media team of Chief Michael Kaase Aondoakaa, SAN, has strongly criticized the Benue State Government over what it described as an attempt to criminalize legitimate criticism instead of confronting the persistent security challenges facing the state.

In a statement signed by James Ian, Media Assistant to Chief Aondoakaa, the group condemned remarks attributed to the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Hyacinth Alia, arguing that the government’s response to growing concerns over insecurity reflects a failure to address the plight of affected communities.

According to the statement, rather than focusing on ending attacks on rural communities, protecting farmers and restoring confidence among residents, the government has allegedly shifted attention toward political opponents.

The statement described the government’s position as “a public confession” that it has run out of ideas to tackle insecurity, insisting that criticism of government policies is a constitutional right guaranteed in every democratic society.

The media team maintained that Chief Aondoakaa merely exercised his civic responsibility by demanding greater commitment from those entrusted with protecting lives and property in Benue State.

It further argued that if the government possesses credible evidence linking any individual to criminal activities, such evidence should be presented before the appropriate security agencies and courts instead of being discussed through public statements.

The statement also questioned the effectiveness of the government’s security interventions despite claims that it has continued to provide logistics, intelligence, coordination and motivation to security agencies.

According to the media aide, the continued attacks on communities, displacement of residents and inability of many farmers to return to their ancestral homes raise serious questions about the success of the state’s security strategy.

The Aondoakaa camp further criticized what it described as efforts to portray opposition voices as sponsors of insecurity, warning that such an approach could undermine constitutional freedoms and democratic principles.

It maintained that criticism of government performance should not be interpreted as an attempt to politicize insecurity but rather as a legitimate demand for accountability from public officials.

The statement stressed that Chief Michael Kaase Aondoakaa would continue to advocate for displaced persons, grieving families and communities affected by violent attacks, insisting that government has the primary responsibility of safeguarding lives and property.

It urged the Benue State Government to focus more on ending the bloodshed across the state than engaging in political exchanges with critics.
