Prominent Ugandan opposition leader Robert Kyagulanyi, widely known by his stage name Bobi Wine, has announced his temporary departure from Uganda after spending nearly two months in hiding, fleeing what he described as relentless security operations targeting him and his political allies in the wake of a disputed presidential election.

In a statement released on Saturday, the former musician-turned-politician revealed that he went underground shortly after the January polls, which he vehemently claims were massively rigged in favour of President Yoweri Museveni, prompting a wave of raids and surveillance that forced him to evade capture with the aid of loyal supporters who provided crucial assistance in navigating the security dragnet.

Bobi Wine detailed how security forces combed through the country in search of him, raiding the homes of several colleagues and placing his own residence under constant watch, a situation he portrayed as a systematic effort to silence dissent following the contentious election that has drawn international condemnation for alleged irregularities and violence against opposition figures.
