Breaking News: Ogunmola Withdraws as APC Candidate for Ogori/Magongo State Constituency

In a surprising political development ahead of the forthcoming Kogi State House of Assembly election, Hon. (Prince) Bode Ogunmola has voluntarily withdrawn his candidacy as the All Progressives Congress (APC) flagbearer for the Ogori/Magongo State Constituency.

Ogunmola formally communicated his decision in a letter dated June 4, 2026, addressed to the Kogi State Chairman of the APC through the party’s leadership structure at the local government and ward levels.

In the letter, the former candidate stated that his decision followed extensive consultations with his family, community elders, and political associates, emphasizing that the move was made after careful reflection and consideration of the overall interests of the party and the constituency.

According to him, the decision was not taken lightly, but was necessary to promote unity, stability, and the continued progress of the APC in Ogori/Magongo and Kogi State as a whole.

“I hereby formally notify the All Progressives Congress, APC, Kogi State Chapter, and all relevant authorities of my voluntary decision to withdraw as the party’s candidate for Ogori/Magongo State Constituency in the forthcoming Kogi State House of Assembly election,” Ogunmola stated.

He further explained that after weighing all factors and engaging in consultations with key stakeholders, he came to the conclusion that stepping aside at this point would best serve the interests of both the party and the people he sought to represent.

Despite withdrawing from the race, Ogunmola reaffirmed his unwavering commitment to the APC, stressing that he remains a loyal member dedicated to the party’s success at all levels.

“Let me state unequivocally that I remain committed to the ideals and vision of the All Progressives Congress. I will remain a loyal party man and will continue to work for the success of the party in all elections,” he wrote.

The former candidate also pledged to mobilize support for the APC in future electoral contests and contribute to strengthening the party’s structures across Ogori/Magongo Local Government Area and beyond.

“For the records, I will continue to support the party and work for its victory in Ogori/Magongo, Kogi State and the nation at large,” he added.

Ogunmola expressed appreciation to the APC leadership, stakeholders, delegates, supporters, and party members who stood by him throughout the primary election process.

He thanked them for their confidence and encouragement, noting that their support would always be cherished.

Copies of the withdrawal letter were also forwarded to the National Chairman of the APC at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja, as well as the APC Chairman in Ogori/Magongo Local Government Area.

The withdrawal is expected to trigger consultations among party leaders and stakeholders regarding the next steps for the party’s representation in the constituency ahead of the election.

As of the time of filing this report, the Kogi State chapter of the APC had yet to issue an official statement on Ogunmola’s withdrawal or indicate how the party intends to fill the vacancy created by his decision.
