Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, is expected in Asaba on Tuesday for the opening of the 7th edition of the Delta State Strategic Communication Workshop, DELCOM 2026.
The three-day event, holding at Hotel Benizia from August 18, 2026, will bring together government media aides, information officers, Public Relations Officers and media partners for professional training on modern strategic communication.

The workshop is themed: “Digital Communication and Crisis Management: Building Trust and Credibility for Democratic Governance.”
The State Coordinator of DELCOM and Director-General of the Delta State Bureau for Orientation and Communications, Olorogun Fred Latimore Oghenesivbe, said the initiative was designed to ensure that government communication personnel remained professionally equipped to operate in an increasingly complex media environment.
He said the administration of Governor Oborevwori recognised the importance of human capital development in strengthening the state’s communication system.
Oghenesivbe explained that communication professionals in government now operate in an environment shaped by social media, artificial intelligence, misinformation, citizen journalism and rapidly changing digital technologies.
He said DELCOM therefore provides an avenue for participants to acquire practical skills that would enable them to communicate government policies and programmes accurately, responsibly and effectively.
Among the areas to be examined at the 2026 workshop are digital communication, strategic media relations, crisis and reputation management, peace journalism, public information management and message development.

The programme will also encourage interaction and peer learning among communication practitioners working across the Delta State public sector.
Oghenesivbe disclosed that Professor Presley Obukadata, Professor Joyce Ogwezi and Dr. Rita Abamba would serve as trainers during the workshop.
He described the resource persons as experienced communication scholars and professionals whose expertise would add value to the practical sessions.
The Director-General said the workshop would help participants better understand how to build credibility, manage crises and sustain public confidence through effective communication.
He commended Governor Oborevwori for supporting the annual programme, saying DELCOM had become an important component of the state’s institutional capacity-building efforts.
