The Delta State Government has said the recently concluded Delta State Economic and Investment Summit is part of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s strategy to reposition the state as a major investment destination.
The Director-General of the Delta State Bureau for Orientation and Communications, Dr Fred Latimore Oghenesivbe, disclosed this while speaking on a special Democracy radio programme monitored in Asaba on Sunday.

The three-day summit was held from August 3 to 5, 2026, at The Dome, Asaba, under the theme, “Harnessing Our Strengths, Unlocking Our Potentials.”
Oghenesivbe said the summit focused on investment opportunities in sectors including the Delta Special Economic Zone, agriculture and agribusiness, solid minerals, energy, tourism, creative economy, infrastructure, blue economy, transport, human capital, aquaculture and the digital economy.

According to him, the summit was designed to attract domestic and foreign investment, expand productive capacity and create employment opportunities for residents.
He said the government expected the initiative to strengthen private-sector participation, promote technology transfer, support local enterprises and improve government revenue.
Oghenesivbe noted that Delta had significant economic potential beyond crude oil, citing agriculture, manufacturing, energy, logistics, tourism and the blue economy as areas capable of driving economic diversification.
He said the state’s 2024 GDP was estimated at N16.97 trillion, while the non-oil economy was identified as accounting for about 71.43 per cent of the state’s GDP.
He also highlighted Delta’s 163-kilometre coastline, four seaports and substantial gas reserves as strategic advantages capable of attracting investors.
The government, he said, had also embarked on reforms in land administration, investment facilitation, public-private partnerships, revenue administration, security and dispute resolution to improve the business environment.
Oghenesivbe, however, stressed that the success of the summit would ultimately depend on implementation.

“The summit has opened the door; what follows is implementation,” he said, stressing the need to convert investment discussions and commitments into actual businesses, productive assets and jobs.
He expressed optimism that investors and strategic partners who participated in the summit would continue engagements with the state government and eventually establish operations in Delta.
