Delta Mourns as Burial of Late Sunday Kotor Holds June 26 in Okwagbe

A wave of grief and solemn reflection has swept across communities in Delta State following the announcement of the burial arrangements for late Hon. Sunday Kpikpi Kotor, popularly known as “Ilewheri.” His final rites have been scheduled for Friday, June 26, 2026, in Okwagbe Waterside, Ughelli South Local Government Area.

For many who knew him, the announcement marks the closing of a significant chapter in the life of a man whose influence extended beyond politics into community service, social development, and grassroots leadership.

Late Sunday Kpikpi Kotor, who passed away at the age of 63, was widely regarded as a community mobilizer and respected political figure who dedicated much of his life to advancing the interests of his people. In a funeral announcement jointly issued by the Kotor family of Idjogun Quarters, Okwagbe Waterside, the Oruku family of Ubogo in Udu Local Government Area, and the Akpotor family of Oviri Ogor in Ughelli North Local Government Area, the families expressed gratitude to God for the impactful life he lived and the enduring legacy he leaves behind.

According to the programme released by the family, funeral activities will commence on Monday, June 22, 2026, with a Day of Tributes at Unity Hall, Government House, Asaba. The event is expected to attract political associates, government officials, traditional rulers, community leaders, friends, and admirers who will gather to pay tribute to the late elder statesman.

A Service of Songs is scheduled for Tuesday, June 23, 2026, at Faith Baptist Church, DSC Township, where family members and sympathizers will assemble in worship and remembrance of a man many described as a pillar of strength and inspiration.

The remains of the deceased will depart the Nigerian Navy Hospital, Effurun, on Friday, June 26, 2026, for Okwagbe Waterside, where the main funeral service will take place at Okwagbe Secondary School Field by 11:00 a.m.

Expected at the funeral are prominent political leaders, business associates, community stakeholders, youth organizations, religious leaders, and friends from across the country who wish to honour the memory of a man remembered for his unwavering dedication to community progress.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) family in Delta State described late Kotor as a devoted family man who upheld the values of hard work, honesty, peace, and mutual respect. They noted that beyond his public engagements, he remained deeply committed to the wellbeing of his family and was always available to offer guidance and support to younger generations.
