Ebira Witches Issue September Ultimatum to Kogi Govt over Water, Schools, Roads
The Association of Ebira Witchcraft, led by Her Majesty Inya Oyarazi Kudi Attah, has issued a stern ultimatum to Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, demanding urgent action on critical infrastructure deficits in Kogi Central Senatorial District by the first week of September 2026.
In a letter dated Saturday and addressed to Governor Ododo as well as his predecessor Alhaji Yahaya Bello, the group, speaking on behalf of all Ebira people in the district with chapters in other senatorial zones poised to follow suit, lamented the dire lack of basic amenities and warned that failure to comply could jeopardize the governor’s re-election prospects in a manner reminiscent of past political upsets.
At the forefront of their demands is the provision of reliable water infrastructure, which the association described as a fundamental human right rather than a political favour, noting that access to clean and regular water supply remains a luxury in Ebira land and surrounding communities.
“We demand immediate intervention through boreholes, water schemes, and sustainable infrastructure,” the letter stated, underscoring the urgency amid ongoing hardships.
The witches also called for the comprehensive rehabilitation of schools across Kogi Central, where fewer than 47 primary and secondary schools are reportedly functional, many in deplorable conditions lacking furniture, learning materials, and qualified teachers.
“Education is the foundation of development, and neglecting it is a direct attack on the future of our children,” they emphasised, insisting on total overhaul to salvage the region’s educational landscape.
Further highlighting transport and urban development gaps, the association demanded the reconstruction of an ultra-modern motor garage in Okene, arguing that the existing park infrastructure falls woefully short of the area’s population size, economic significance, and modern safety standards.
“We demand the rebuilding of an ultra-modern motor garage in Okene to boost commerce, safety, and urban dignity,” the letter read, while critiquing misplaced priorities such as digital initiatives like e-libraries in the absence of water, functional schools, and basic facilities.
They urged a “Road Network Reality Check,” questioning the relevance of road projects in an economic climate where car ownership is beyond most residents’ reach and communities still grapple without water, schools, or jobs, insisting that true development must be people-centered rather than mere statistics.
In a pointed political warning, the Association of Ebira Witchcraft drew parallels to historical precedents, noting that Governor Ododo’s re-election bid faces risks similar to the 2015 general election loss of President Goodluck Jonathan despite incumbency, or the defeat of former Kogi Governor Wada amid public discontent.
“The Association of Nigerian Witches has always done a thorough job, symbolically and politically, where leaders ignore the cries of the people,” they declared, framing the September deadline as a final call for responsible governance rather than a threat.
“Failure to act will be interpreted as deliberate neglect of the Ebira people. Let development be felt in homes, schools, water taps, and daily life, not only in speeches and billboards. The people are watching. History is recording. Power ultimately belongs to the people.”
