Gay: Tension Escalates in Otolokpo as Family House Set Ablaze

Tension has heightened in Otolokpo Kingdom, in Ika North East Local Government Area of Delta State, following the burning of the family home of Gideon Mariochukwu, a former staff member of Ika Weekly, by angry youths in the community.

The incident occurred after more than one year of efforts by members of the community to locate Mariochukwu, who is said to have fled following allegations surrounding his sexual orientation.

A relative of the Mariochukwu family, who spoke to Ika Weekly on condition of anonymity for fear of attack, said the burning of the house reflects growing frustration among some residents over Gideon’s continued absence.

According to the source, sections of the community regard the allegations against Mariochukwu as a serious violation of long-held traditional beliefs and customs.

The source further revealed that before the fire incident, members of Mariochukwu’s immediate family had reportedly fled the community due to fears of possible attacks and rising hostility from aggrieved youths.

The anonymous source claimed that some traditional practices linked to moral conduct remain deeply rooted in the kingdom despite changing societal values and modernization.

According to reports in the Ika Weekly, the source also warned that tensions could escalate further if the situation remains unresolved.
