Group Blasts Ex-Nasarawa Accountant-General Over ‘No Governor, No Salary’ Threat, Warns Workers

A group operating under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has strongly condemned a former Accountant-General of Nasarawa State, Rt. Hon. Musa Ahmed Mohammed, over what it described as a reckless and inflammatory statement suggesting that if there would be “no Baraden (governor) without him,” and by extension, no payment of salaries to workers should his governorship ambition fail.

The group warned that such utterances are not only misleading but also capable of inciting unnecessary tension among civil servants and the general public, stressing that governance in the state cannot be held hostage to personal political aspirations.

The condemnation follows a recent rally held in Lafia, organized by some hired group tagged clarion call, which the group dismissed as a carefully orchestrated event designed to project artificial popularity for the former Accountant-General’s 2027 governorship bid.

According to the group, the gathering was allegedly populated by rented crowds transported from across the 13 local government areas of the state under the pretext of a “people’s call.”

The stakeholders described the development as a desperate attempt to undermine the administration of Governor Abdullahi Sule and tarnish his reputation, insisting that the claims being propagated at the rally do not reflect the true sentiments of the people of Nasarawa State.

Reports from the event indicated that participants openly chanted slogans to the effect that if there would be “no Baraden Nasarawa for Governor, no salary” for workers, a development the group said was both unfortunate and dangerous.

It maintained that such rhetoric was a direct affront to the principles of responsible leadership and a calculated move to create fear and uncertainty among workers, who depend on regular salary payments for their livelihood.

In a statement issued on Monday evening, the group’s spokesperson, Deniel Zaku (Kokona) and Mustapha Suleiman (Keffi) Secretary, cautioned the former Accountant-General to exercise restraint and desist from making statements capable of destabilising the state.

He emphasised that at no point was there any formal or informal agreement suggesting that the operations of government or the welfare of workers would be tied to the political fortunes of any individual.

Awalu further reassured civil servants that their salaries and entitlements remain the responsibility of the government, irrespective of political contests or ambitions.

The group also accused the former Accountant-General of hypocrisy, alleging that he had engaged the services of a praise singer, Dauda Kahuta, from outside the state to perform at the rally and deliver rehearsed encomiums.

This, it said, contrasts sharply with his alleged failure to mobilise support or organise similar engagements in favour of the current administration during his tenure in office, despite benefiting significantly from the system.

Reiterating its support for Governor Abdullahi Sule, the group warned against any attempt to drag the state into political instability through divisive rhetoric, urging all political actors to conduct their ambitions within the bounds of decency, truth, and respect for constituted authority.
