Hisbah Police in Kano State, Wednesdayarrested 11 Muslims caught eating during the ongoing Ramadan fast.
The suspects, comprising 10 men and one woman, were nabbed in separate operations across the state capital.
Hisbah, the Islamic police enforcing Sharia law in the predominantly Muslim northern state, conducted routine raids on eateries and markets as part of annual Ramadan enforcement.

Spokesman Lawal Fagge confirmed the arrests to our correspondent, saying: “We got 11 persons on Wednesday including a lady selling groundnuts who was seen eating from her wares and some persons alerted us.”
He explained that the men were picked up near busy markets where commercial activities peak during the day.
The offenders were later released after swearing oaths to henceforth observe the fast diligently.
Fagge disclosed: “They were freed after promising to start fasting from now on, and for some of them, we had to see their relatives or guardians to have a family member monitor them.”
He stressed that operations would intensify throughout Ramadan but non-Muslims remain exempt.
“We don’t arrest non-Muslims because this doesn’t concern them,” Fagge said.
“The only time they could be guilty of a crime is when we find out they cook food to sell to Muslims who are supposed to be fasting.”
Kano operates a dual legal system blending Sharia with secular laws, with Hisbah actively policing public compliance during the holy month.
