IYC Presidency: Enakeme Ojineme Emerges as Prominent Female Contender Ahead of Election

As delegates prepare to elect the 10th President of the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) Worldwide, Comrade Enakeme Ojineme has emerged as one of the prominent contenders in the race, attracting attention for her leadership experience, public speaking skills and campaign message.

Ojineme, the only female aspirant in the contest, has been described by some supporters as one of the strongest female candidates to seek the IYC’s highest office. Her campaign has focused on youth development, advocacy and strengthening the voice of the Ijaw people.

During the presidential debate, she drew attention with her presentation and engagement on issues affecting the council, earning commendations from some stakeholders and delegates.

Her supporters point to her experience in student leadership, youth development, women’s advocacy and public service as evidence of her preparedness for the office. They argue that her background in activism and policy advocacy positions her to provide leadership for the council as the tenure of the outgoing President, Dr. Alaye Tari Theophilus, comes to an end.

Ojineme has also highlighted her involvement in regional and international engagements, including roles associated with ECOWAS and the African Union, as well as her participation in advocacy campaigns and civic initiatives. She previously contested for a councillorship position in the Federal Capital Territory and has held various leadership positions within and outside Nigeria.

With less than 24 hours to the election, political observers say the outcome of the contest will depend largely on delegates’ choices, with Ojineme remaining one of the candidates seeking to lead the Ijaw Youth Council Worldwide into its next chapter.
