.…Closed-Door Meeting Comes Amid Rising 2027 Political Calculations

The Speaker of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Danladi Jatau, Ph.D., and former Speaker Rt. Hon. Ibrahim Balarabe Abdullahi have met privately in Lafia amid growing political activities ahead of the 2027 elections.

Balarabe Abdullahi visited Jatau at his residence in the Project Quarters on Saturday.

The meeting was held behind closed doors, but sources familiar with the development said the two political and legislative leaders discussed issues concerning the State Assembly, development of Nasarawa State, political unity and the 2027 elections.

Why the Meeting Matters

The meeting is considered noteworthy because Jatau succeeded Balarabe Abdullahi as Speaker of the State House of Assembly.

Balarabe served as Speaker for about eight and a half years, covering the Fifth and Sixth Assemblies and part of the Seventh Assembly between 2015 and 2023.

Jatau is currently serving his third term as member representing Kokona West State Constituency.

The incumbent Speaker previously served as Speaker of the Kokona Local Government Legislative Council, Chairman of Agwada Development Area and held other political appointments.

Both Leaders From Western Zone

Jatau and Balarabe Abdullahi are both prominent figures from the Western Zone of Nasarawa State.

Jatau is from Kokona Local Government Area, while Balarabe Abdullahi is from Toto Local Government Area.

Their meeting comes at a time when political alignments and consultations are gradually taking shape across Nasarawa ahead of 2027.

Balarabe Abdullahi currently chairs the Governing Council of the Federal Polytechnic, Damaturu, Yobe State.

Earlier Meeting With Former Speaker

The development also comes nearly six weeks after Balarabe Abdullahi reportedly held a meeting with Dr. Musa Ahmed Muhammad, a former Speaker of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly who currently serves as the State Accountant General.

While the latest meeting between Jatau and Balarabe remains private, its timing has fuelled interest among political observers.
