KOGI WEST GROUP DISMISSES APC LEADERS’ ‘VOTE OF NO CONFIDENCE’ ON SENATOR KARIMI AS SELF-SERVING POLITICAL SCRIPT
The Kogi West Movement for Justice and Progress (KWMJP) has dismissed a purported communiqué issued by some All Progressives Congress (APC) leaders in Kabba/Bunu Local Government Area, declaring a “vote of no confidence” on Senator Sunday Steve Karimi, representing Kogi West Senatorial District, as a politically motivated script orchestrated by desperate politicians that has failed woefully and carries no consequences.
According to a press statement signed by its convener, Tajudeen Irelewa Samson, the group described the document as lacking legitimacy due to its glaring contradictions and political desperation, insisting it ordinarily deserved no response but required rebuttal to prevent misinformation from gaining traction among the public.
The KWMJP specifically fingered Hon. Wemi Jones and Hon. Bode Adeyemi, along with a handful of ambition-driven politicians, as the masterminds whose blind pursuit of control over Kogi West’s political direction has overridden reason, fairness, and democratic norms, recalling how Hon. Adeyemi, during his stint in the 2025 bursary scheme that benefited 1,500 Kabba/Bunu students through Senator Karimi’s benevolence, allegedly returned funds that ended up in personal pockets.
Credible sources had long exposed the plot to stage-manage this political drama aimed at discrediting the distinguished senator, the group stated, emphasizing that what emerged was not the genuine voice of the grassroots but merely the echo of a predetermined, self-serving agenda that has since collapsed without impact.
The movement reminded the public of Senator Karimi’s track record as one of the most accessible and responsive representatives in recent history, with well-documented engagements across communities, traditional institutions, youth groups, and development stakeholders throughout the seven local government areas of Kogi West, making accusations of inaccessibility not just misleading but a deliberate distortion of reality for political convenience.
On the demand for a senatorial district office in Kabba, the KWMJP clarified that National Assembly representation is judged by the quality of legislative contributions, constituency interventions, and welfare advocacy rather than the physical location of an office building, pointing to the senator’s ongoing initiatives, empowerment programmes, and cross-LGA efforts as evidence of his effective delivery.
The group further debunked claims of Kabba/Bunu’s exclusion from legislative aide appointments, arguing that such positions are based on competence, strategic legislative needs, and service delivery rather than narrow political sentiments, while noting the senator’s close collaboration with reputable sons and daughters of the area for the progress of Kabba/Bunu and the wider district.
Allegations of insubordination to party leadership and anti-party behavior were dismissed as spurious narratives from those uncomfortable with the senator’s independent-minded leadership that resists manipulation, with the KWMJP highlighting the irony in accusers promoting disharmony through coerced resolutions and intimidation of ward leaders, which only exposes their desperation rather than fostering unity.
“No individual, group, or gathering has the constitutional authority to determine the political future of a senator elected by the entire Kogi West Senatorial District; the mandate came from the collective votes of the people, who will ultimately judge his performance,” the statement stressed, urging the public to view the communiqué as a distraction designed to sow tension within the APC and district.Instead of manufactured controversies, stakeholders should prioritize APC unity and the developmental gains under progressive leadership in Kogi State, the movement advised, reaffirming Senator Karimi’s commitment to responsible representation, advancing Kogi West’s interests at the National Assembly, and supporting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s reelection while promoting his ideals and strides without fear of engineered distractions.
“We know where the script is coming from, but their machinations cannot defeat the collective will of the great people of Kogi West,” the statement concluded, calling on party members, community leaders, and the public to reject divisive theatrics and focus on sustainable development, unity, and progress for the senatorial district.
