Supporters of the National Leader of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, have floated the idea of a joint presidential ticket pairing him with Peter Obi ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Speaking on behalf of various support groups in Kano on Friday, Abba Sadauki Gwale said the move was informed by growing public demand for a political alliance capable of salvaging Nigeria from its current socio-economic challenges.

“If the duo gets a chance in the upcoming election, Nigeria will be a better place. We are tired of insecurity, hunger and starvation,” Gwale said.

He explained that the proposed partnership could take place under any political platform and is aimed at uniting Obi’s support base in the South with Kwankwaso’s grassroots strength in the North, forming a national coalition strong enough to challenge the All Progressives Congress (APC) and its leader, President Bola Tinubu.

Gwale stressed that both men have consistently prioritised the welfare of ordinary Nigerians in their policy outlooks.

“The partnership is driven by a shared ambition to wrest power from the ruling APC and deliver meaningful change for Nigerians,” he added.

Reacting to rumours that Kwankwaso was considering defecting to the APC, Gwale described such claims as outrageous, asserting that the former Kano State governor’s decisions remain aligned with the interests of his widespread supporters.

“He continues to enjoy massive grassroots support in Kano and beyond, despite political realignments,” Gwale said.

He added that the Obi–Kwankwaso alliance is being closely watched ahead of the 2027 elections, with expectations high that it could convert growing momentum into a serious electoral challenge.
