The Labour Party has congratulated Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva on his re-election for a historic fourth term, describing his victory as a demonstration of the confidence reposed in social democratic leadership by the Brazilian people.

In a press statement issued on Friday, October 30, 2026, and signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Ken Eluma Asogwa, the party said Lula’s victory reflected the shared ideological principles between Brazil’s Workers’ Party (PT) and Nigeria’s Labour Party.

The party noted that both political organisations share a commitment to social democracy, social justice, economic inclusion and policies that prioritise the welfare of ordinary citizens.

According to the statement, Lula’s electoral victory demonstrates how citizens can use the ballot to determine their political future and sustain leadership rooted in their ideological beliefs.

The Labour Party also urged Nigerians to draw inspiration from Brazil’s democratic experience as the country prepares for its next general elections, encouraging the electorate to consider the party’s candidates across all elective positions.

Highlighting its performance in Abia State under Governor Alex Otti, the party maintained that the administration’s achievements demonstrate its commitment to addressing the needs and aspirations of the people.

It argued that the Abia experience provides an example of the party’s approach to governance and its capacity to translate its social democratic philosophy into practical policies and development programmes.

The party further stated that Nigeria could benefit from a governance framework that places greater emphasis on citizens’ welfare, equitable development, social justice and economic opportunities.

It expressed confidence that the Labour Party’s political philosophy offers an alternative governance approach capable of addressing the country’s development challenges at all levels of government, including the presidency.

The statement added that the party would continue engaging Nigerians ahead of the general elections, urging citizens to remain confident in its vision for a better country.

Drawing parallels between Brazil and Nigeria, the Labour Party stressed that democratic participation remains a powerful instrument for shaping the future of nations.

It concluded with its message that “People Power is greater than political power.”
