Fulham manager, Marco Silva, has commended Samuel Chukwueze for his mental strength and professionalism following the recent passing of his mother, Sarah.

Naija News reports that the Super Eagles winger lost his mother after a brief illness, a devastating blow that came shortly after Nigeria captain Wilfred Ndidi also suffered a family tragedy with the death of his father in a car accident.

Chukwueze was known to share a close bond with his mother, often appearing alongside her during visits to Nigeria. One emotional moment that resurfaced online showed her praying for him before the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), highlighting the depth of their relationship.

Despite the personal loss, Chukwueze has continued to feature for Fulham, starting in their recent Premier League clash against Manchester United.

He delivered an energetic performance, showing attacking intent and defensive commitment, although he did not score or assist as Fulham fell to a 3-2 defeat.

Ahead of Fulham’s weekend fixture against Everton, Silva revealed that Chukwueze remains in contention for another starting role and praised his attitude during a difficult period.

“He took a decision to play, he feels very well here, it’s been a tough moment for him and his family. Nice to see him smiling every day. Nice to see him with us,” Silva said.

With a packed club schedule, Chukwueze is expected to delay travelling to Nigeria for his mother’s burial until the summer. For now, his focus remains on helping Fulham push for a strong finish in the league.

The London club currently sit ninth in the Premier League, seven points off the Champions League places. A sustained run of positive results could yet revive their hopes of securing European football next season.
