May Day: Oborevwori Salutes Workers, Reaffirms Commitment to Welfare

Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has felicitated with workers in the state and across Nigeria on the occasion of the 2026 Workers’ Day, describing them as the engine driving government’s achievements and development strides.

In a statement issued on Friday by his Chief Press Secretary, Sir Festus Ahon, the governor said May Day is not only a moment for celebration but also a time for reflection and renewed commitment to building a society where workers are valued and adequately rewarded.

Oborevwori commended workers across both public and private sectors—including civil servants, teachers, healthcare professionals, artisans, farmers, and entrepreneurs—for their immense contributions to the growth and development of the state.

“I join Deltans and Nigerians nationwide in celebrating our hardworking and resilient workforce. You remain the backbone of our development, and I commend your dedication and sacrifices,” the governor stated.

He highlighted key achievements under his administration’s M.O.R.E. Agenda, noting the prompt payment of salaries and pensions, clearance of pension arrears, ongoing recruitment in the health sector, and implementation of capacity-building programmes aimed at boosting productivity.

The governor also cited improvements in the working environment, including the upgrade of public infrastructure, revitalisation of healthcare facilities, and renovation of schools to enhance service delivery.

According to him, government-backed entrepreneurship initiatives have empowered artisans and small business owners, while sustained investment in infrastructure such as roads, bridges, and markets has improved connectivity and stimulated economic activities.

He added that the administration is strengthening agricultural programmes to increase food production, enhance food security, and stabilise prices across the state.

Oborevwori further assured that his government remains committed to transparency, accountability, and inclusive governance, ensuring that public resources are managed for the benefit of all citizens.

“This approach guarantees that your voices are heard and reflects our dedication to fairness, integrity, and responsible leadership,” he said.

The governor urged workers to remain steadfast, uphold professionalism, and continue to work in unity for the overall progress of Delta State.

“Together, we will build a stronger and more prosperous future for our state,” he added.
