Michael Owen has played down Arsenal’s chances of winning all four major trophies this season, despite their strong position across competitions.

The former England striker believes the scale of the challenge will eventually catch up with Mikel Arteta’s side, even after their 4-2 aggregate victory over Chelsea in the Carabao Cup semi-finals.

Arsenal currently lead the Premier League by six points, topped their Champions League group with a perfect record, and are preparing to face Wigan Athletic in the FA Cup fourth round.

Owen accepts that domestic success looks likely, but insists the remaining competitions will be far more demanding.

“The league is obviously nearly wrapped up. And yes, they could win the Carabao Cup,” Owen said on talkSPORT.

“And then the two others are going to be absolutely tough.

“All the other clubs are going to be focused on the FA Cup to salvage their seasons. And they will put out strong teams.

“The Champions League could be anybody’s.”

While Arsenal continue to push on multiple fronts, club legend Paul Merson has criticised the team’s midfield following their narrow 1-0 win over Chelsea in the second leg at the Emirates Stadium. Kai Havertz scored the only goal of the match, but Merson felt the midfield trio struggled to impose themselves.

Martín Zubimendi, Declan Rice and Eberechi Eze were singled out, with Merson suggesting they were outmatched by Chelsea’s midfield pairing.

“The Arsenal midfield three were not great but they played against a very good midfield three in Caicedo and Santos,” Merson said on Sky Sports.

“I thought Enzo was wasted out on the left in the first half, playing on the left against one of Arsenal’s better defenders in Timber.”
