MULADE Slams NDC with N5bn Damages Claim Over Substitution After Primary Victory

A renowned peace and development advocate from Delta State, Chief Mulade Sheriff, has slammed the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) with a N5 billion damages claim over what he described as the party’s unlawful decision to set aside the outcome of its primary election and replace it with an alleged selection or appointment process.

Mulade, who emerged winner of the NDC primary for the Warri Federal Constituency House of Representatives seat in the just-concluded party primaries in Delta State, expressed shock and disappointment over the party’s sudden move.

The Ibe-Sorimowei of the ancient oil-rich Gbaramatu Kingdom and prominent human rights activist condemned the party’s action, alleging that the leadership abandoned a transparent democratic process in favour of a questionable candidate selection method allegedly influenced by the highest bidder through nomination form purchases.

Speaking on the development, the renowned environmentalist said:

“We were taken aback by the actions of the newly registered political party, the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), which many Nigerians had seen as a possible saviour capable of addressing the numerous challenges confronting our dear nation.

“Little did we know that the NDC vehicle we boarded would turn out to be one driven by placeholders and practices that appear to gamble with the future of Nigerians.”

According to the Niger Delta activist, he holds the leadership of the NDC in high regard, particularly the National Leader, Senator Henry Seriake Dickson, but noted that recent events suggest the leadership may have been overwhelmed by financial influence disguised as donations, contributions, and nomination form sales.

He argued that no credible political party should “appoint” a flagbearer after a lawful and valid primary election has produced a winner.

“It is imperative to state that Nigerians are tired of political parties that continue to deceive and manipulate the electorate during every election cycle.

“Our political system must be driven by genuine ideology and purpose if we truly seek to rescue and develop the nation for the benefit of its citizens, especially where independent candidacy becomes an option,” he stated.

Mulade urged the party leadership to retrace its steps and uphold integrity by doing what is right if the NDC hopes to remain credible and competitive ahead of the 2027 general elections.

He said the party stands at a defining moment in its history and must act decisively to redeem its image nationwide.

“I want to strongly believe that the NDC vehicle for the 2027 general elections is not intended to become a ‘one chance’ ride for Nigerians, but rather a genuine political platform designed to salvage our battered country,” he added.
