The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in Nasarawa State, Arc. Mohammed Jafar Ibrahim, has urged members and supporters of the party to remain peaceful, patient and law-abiding as the party navigates its ongoing internal challenges.
Ibrahim made the appeal in his message commemorating Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary and Nasarawa State’s 30th anniversary.
According to him, recent developments within the PDP have created uncertainty among some members and supporters, but he urged them not to surrender to despair, provocation or division.

“The journey is still on,” Ibrahim said.
He maintained that democracy depends on institutions, due process and respect for the rule of law, urging PDP members to allow relevant legal processes to take their course.
The PDP has faced an internal leadership dispute in 2026. An Interim National Working Committee headed by Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, SAN, emerged from a National Executive Committee process in May, while rival party elements disputed the legitimacy of the arrangement.
In June, the Turaki-led Interim NWC presented certificates of return to PDP governorship candidates ahead of the 2027 elections, according to Voice of Nigeria.
Against this background, Ibrahim called on supporters in Nasarawa State to remain committed to democratic principles and the party’s stated aspirations.
He said his aspiration to govern Nasarawa was driven by the desire to serve farmers, traders, civil servants, artisans, professionals, women, young people, persons living with disabilities and communities across the state.
“My aspiration to serve Nasarawa State has never been about an individual ambition alone,” he said.
Ibrahim also said political disagreements should not overshadow the broader responsibility of building the state and country.
He called for politics that prioritises accountability, justice, inclusion and opportunities for citizens.
According to him, political leaders must understand that public office carries a responsibility to put citizens first, especially at a time when many families face economic difficulties.
He urged PDP supporters to remain united while working for what he described as justice, reconciliation and stability within the party.
The governorship candidate also used the occasion to congratulate Nigerians on the 66th Independence Anniversary and the people of Nasarawa State on 30 years of statehood.

He said the political journey must ultimately be connected to the welfare of ordinary citizens.
“Whatever challenges we encounter along this journey, my commitment to those ideals remains unchanged,” he said.
