Albasheer Vanguard convener seeks to bridge internal divisions, mobilise young people and strengthen the party’s grassroots appeal in Toto
By Our Correspondent
With political calculations intensifying ahead of the 2027 general elections, All Progressives Congress, APC, chieftain Hon. Barr. Umar Gali Ahmed has outlined his reasons for supporting Hon. Yerima Albasheer Mohammed for the House of Representatives seat in the Toto/Nasarawa federal constituency.
Gali, convener of Albasheer Vanguard Toto LG in Nasarawa State, said his decision formed part of a broader approach aimed at promoting fair representation, sustaining established zoning arrangements and rebuilding unity within the APC.

Speaking during a telephone interview with our correspondent on Sunday evening, the legal practitioner said the party needed to address internal grievances and encourage wider participation if it hoped to strengthen its electoral position.

He argued that the traditional zoning arrangement between Toto and Nasarawa local government areas should remain an important consideration in determining who represents the constituency in the National Assembly.
Gali also canvassed for Nasarawa west APC senatorial candidate Dr Shuaib Faisal, given that Faisal hails from Toto LGA.
He said the incumbent federal lawmaker’s eight-year tenure in the National Assembly was another factor that should feature in discussions about the constituency’s next representative.
The APC chieftain, however, stressed that political strategy must extend beyond the contest for elective positions.
He disclosed that he was working to persuade aggrieved party members, particularly young people, to return to the APC and participate actively in its activities ahead of 2027.
According to him, sustained grassroots engagement would help bridge divisions, rebuild trust and encourage members to place collective interests above personal disagreements.
Gali also expressed appreciation for what he described as the growing acceptance of Yerima Albasheer Mohammed across Toto’s 12 wards and three districts.
He said he believed Albasheer would provide quality representation if elected, while urging party stakeholders to remain focused on the needs and expectations of constituents.
The convener of APC Vanguard Toto LG expressed confidence in the party’s prospects but acknowledged the importance of reconciliation and inclusive mobilisation in building a stronger political organisation.
He maintained that party members who felt excluded should be given opportunities to participate meaningfully in its affairs.
As the 2027 elections approach, Gali’s position highlights three central themes in his political strategy: zoning, grassroots mobilisation and reconciliation.
He said a united APC, supported by active engagement with voters and the restoration of confidence among aggrieved members, would be better positioned to compete effectively in the forthcoming elections.
