Oborevwori Pays June Stipends to 10,000 Delta Widows

Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has commenced the payment of June 2026 monthly stipends to 10,000 beneficiaries of the Delta State Widows Welfare Scheme, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to supporting vulnerable women across the state.

Beneficiaries drawn from the 25 local government areas of Delta State began receiving payment alerts on Friday, with many expressing gratitude to the state government for sustaining the social intervention programme.

The Widows Welfare Scheme was introduced to provide financial support to widows facing economic hardship following the loss of their spouses, offering a vital safety net for thousands of vulnerable women.

Speaking in Asaba, the State Coordinator of the Widows Welfare Scheme, Elder Isioma Okonta, described the governor as a compassionate leader whose administration has remained consistent in prioritising the welfare of disadvantaged citizens.

Okonta confirmed that the June 2026 stipends for the 10,000 verified widows enrolled in the first phase of the programme had started reflecting in beneficiaries’ bank accounts.

According to him, the regular payment of the monthly stipends demonstrates Governor Oborevwori’s commitment to inclusive governance and social welfare.

“The stipends for June 2026 have started hitting the accounts of the 10,000 verified widows enrolled in the first phase of the scheme. This is another demonstration of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s compassion and unwavering commitment to the welfare of vulnerable citizens,” he said.

The coordinator also commended the widows’ monitors and local government coordinators for conducting a successful verification exercise across the state’s 25 councils, noting that the process has enhanced the credibility of the programme and ensured that only genuine beneficiaries receive support.

He described the governor’s consistency in funding the initiative as commendable, adding that the scheme has continued to bring relief and hope to widows confronting emotional and financial challenges.

Okonta further stated that the intervention reflects the Oborevwori administration’s people-oriented approach to governance and its resolve to ensure that vulnerable residents are not left behind.
