The Director-General of the World Trade Organisation, Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, has warned Nigerians about a fake artificial intelligence-manipulated video circulating online, cautioning the public not to fall victim to the impersonation scam.

In a post shared via her verified 𝕏 handle (formerly Twitter), Okonjo-Iweala stated that the deepfake video falsely using her image is being investigated by relevant authorities.

“Just alerting Nigerians. Another fake AI-manipulated video. The authorities are handling. Just wanted to alert you to be aware of this,” she wrote.

Naija News reports that the former Nigerian finance minister reiterated that she does not operate any accounts on Instagram, Facebook or WhatsApp, stressing that any posts using her name or image on those platforms should be regarded as fraudulent.

“As I repeatedly said, I never post anything on Instagram, Facebook or WhatsApp. Anything emanating from these sources with my image is not from me. I only post on Twitter/𝕏,” she clarified.

“I just don’t want people to be duped,” she added.

Naija News understands that Okonjo-Iweala’s warning comes amid growing global concerns about the misuse of artificial intelligence tools, particularly in the creation of deepfake videos that impersonate public figures and scam unsuspecting citizens.
