Olubadan Denies Alleged Impeachment Plot Against Makinde

The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, has firmly denied allegations linking him to a purported plan to impeach Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, describing the claims as false, misleading, and unfounded.

In a statement issued by his media aide, Adeola Oloko, the monarch dismissed the report and urged members of the public to disregard it in its entirety.

“To say the least, this is a lie,” the statement quoted the Olubadan as saying, stressing that a traditional ruler has no constitutional authority to remove an elected official from office.

Oba Ladoja further noted that it requires no special political experience to understand that a monarch lacks the power to impeach even a local government chairman, much less a sitting state governor.

The monarch also expressed concern over what he described as contradictory narratives circulating in the political space.

He referenced a recent claim by former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, who had alleged a plot by the Oyo State Government to remove the Olubadan.

“Now, it is the Olubadan who is allegedly planning to impeach the governor. So, who is fooling who?” the statement queried.

Oba Ladoja cautioned against dragging the revered Olubadan stool into partisan politics, emphasizing the importance of preserving the dignity, neutrality, and sanctity of the traditional institution.

He called on the public to ignore the rumours and avoid spreading unverified information capable of creating unnecessary tension in Oyo State.
