Aggrieved members of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) in Kaduna State have renewed their appeal to the party’s national leadership to resolve the dispute surrounding the Kawo Constituency State Assembly primary.

The appeal was contained in an open letter dated September 20, 2026, addressed to the party’s National Chairman, National Secretary, members of the National Working Committee and other concerned stakeholders.

The group, led in the statement by Comrade Silas Matthew Jonathan, said the matter required urgent attention to prevent further damage to confidence in the party’s internal electoral process.

According to the letter, Rakiya Baba Mohammed emerged with 225 votes against 132 votes recorded by Yunusa Mohammed Salisu at the May 29 primary.

The group said the result was compiled and endorsed by the Returning Officer, an INEC official and security representatives present.

It subsequently alleged that the result was later disregarded and that efforts were made to transfer the nomination to another aspirant.

The allegation remains a claim by the signatories and has not been independently established in the sources reviewed.

The group is calling for the NDC leadership to establish the authentic result and, if the cited result is confirmed, immediately recognise Rakiya Baba Mohammed as the party’s Kawo Constituency candidate.

It also demanded the release and forwarding of the relevant nomination documents.

The members further called for an official statement from the national leadership clarifying that no valid primary result would be altered outside the party’s established procedures.

The demand comes after the NDC publicly stated before its May 29 primaries that results would be collated and forwarded to national headquarters for processing and announcement.

After the primaries, the party said that various results circulating on social media should be disregarded and that its National Executive Council remained responsible for determining the outcome.

The Kaduna members said the national leadership still had an opportunity to resolve the matter through internal party mechanisms.

They warned that prolonged uncertainty could escalate the dispute beyond private correspondence and party channels.

The group also argued that a transparent resolution would be important for maintaining confidence among grassroots members, particularly women and young party supporters.

They called on the NDC leadership to ensure that the outcome of its internal electoral process is respected once duly established.

“Restore the mandate. Honour the votes. Protect the integrity of the process,” the group said in its appeal.

The letter was signed by Comrade Silas Matthew Jonathan on behalf of aggrieved members of the NDC in Kaduna State.

Other signatories listed were Garba Sani, Abdullahi Jumaare, Comrade Mukhtar Shehu, Abdulmalik Hassan, Comrade M. Bello and Hauwa Mohammed.
