Serial Mosque Shoe Thief Arrested in Jigawa

A suspected serial thief has been arrested in Jigawa State for allegedly stealing worshippers’ shoes during prayer sessions at various mosques.

The suspect, whose identity had yet to be officially disclosed as of press time, was apprehended on Saturday, April 11, 2026, at a mosque along Maje Road in Hadejia.

He was reportedly caught in the act while attempting to make away with pairs of shoes belonging to worshippers.

Eyewitness Muhammed Sani Yusuf, who spoke on the incident, said the arrest brought an end to what many residents believe to be a long-standing pattern of theft targeting mosques in the area.

According to local accounts, the suspect is believed to have operated across multiple prayer grounds over an extended period, exploiting moments when worshippers were engaged in prayers to carry out the thefts.

However, authorities have not yet established the total number of shoes allegedly stolen.

The incident has sparked concern among residents, many of whom have called for heightened vigilance and improved security measures at mosques to prevent similar occurrences.

Security officials are expected to commence further investigation to determine the full extent of the suspect’s activities and whether he acted alone or as part of a wider network.
