Spurs Begin Search For Interim Manager Ahead Of Arsenal Clash

February 13, 20263 Mins Read

Following the dismissal of head coach Thomas Frank earlier in the week, Tottenham Hotspur have begun moves to appoint an interim manager to steer the club through the remainder of the season as they battle to steady a faltering campaign.

The decision comes with the North London side sitting just five points above the relegation zone, a situation that forced the club hierarchy to act swiftly in a bid to stabilise performances and results.

According to BBC Sport on Friday, sources within the club disclosed that Spurs are confident of finalising an agreement with a temporary replacement before the squad returns to training on Monday.

The urgency is tied to the club’s immediate fixtures and the need to restore structure after the exit of Thomas Frank, whose departure followed a run of poor results that dragged Tottenham closer to the relegation fight.

Tottenham’s early elimination from the FA Cup in the third round has handed the team a nine-day break, providing a window for the club to put a new technical structure in place.

The first-team squad have been granted time off and is expected back at training early next week, ahead of a high-stakes north London derby against Arsenal scheduled for February 22.

Club officials are said to be realistic about the limited availability of high-profile managerial candidates at this stage of the season, with many top options tied to ongoing projects until the summer.

As a result, Tottenham intend to appoint an interim manager now while conducting a comprehensive search for a permanent successor at the end of the campaign.

However, insiders note that the temporary appointee could still be considered for the long-term position if results and performances improve significantly before the season concludes.

Pochettino, De Zerbi Linked

Naija News understands that among the names linked with the role of manager for the Premier League club is former Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino, who is currently in charge of the United States men’s national soccer team. His existing contract reportedly runs until after this summer’s World Cup, which could complicate any immediate return.

Another coach being mentioned is Roberto De Zerbi, who recently parted ways with Olympique de Marseille by mutual consent, making him a free agent.

With the relegation battle intensifying and key fixtures approaching, Tottenham’s immediate focus is on restoring stability within the dressing room and ensuring the team pulls clear of danger.

The derby against Arsenal is expected to serve as an early test for whoever takes charge, as the club aims to salvage its season before making a decisive long-term managerial appointment in the summer.
