Electricity workers in Nigeria, under the aegis of the National Union of Electricity Employees (NUEE), have threatened to go on strike over unfulfilled demands.

Naija News reports that the workers have issued a 21-day nationwide strike notice to the Federal Government over what they described as widespread anti-labour practices, wage violations, non-remittance of deducted tax, pension and worsening job insecurity in the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry (NESI).

According to the workers, failure to resolve all the pending issues within the 21 days would result in strike action capable of crippling electricity generation and distribution nationwide.

The strike notice, dated January 26, 2026, signed by NUEE’s Acting General Secretary, Igwebike Dominic, and addressed to the Minister of Power, said the issues they are raising have been on the table for about twelve years, and the government has failed to resolve them.

The workers accused power sector employers of refusing to negotiate or implement collective agreements and conditions of service, particularly in power-generating companies, while also failing to implement the 2025 National Minimum Wage Act and its consequential adjustments.

Former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose has accused Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State of plotting to be the running mate of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar in the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Naija News reports that Fayose was reacting to a meeting held on Tuesday in Niger State between Atiku, Makinde and former Head of State, Ibrahim Babangida.

In a statement on Wednesday, the Ekiti former governor said Makinde promised to divide the vote of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the Southwest and also deliver Rivers State votes for Atiku.

According to Fayose, Makinde said he would release 10 billion naira for the opposition party, promising to make more funds available when campaign starts.

Former Kaduna State Governor, Malam Nasir El-Rufai, has asserted that the All Progressives Congress (APC) led Federal Government might be plotting his arrest amid rising political tension in the country.

Naija News reports that El-Rufai, a former APC chieftain now a chieftain of the opposition African Democratic Congress, also claimed that some politicians were being pressured to either defect to the ruling party or remain within its fold.

He made the claims during an interview with BBC Hausa.

The former governor, who has recently intensified his criticism of President Bola Tinubu’s administration and the APC, said although he had not been arrested, some of his close associates had already been detained.

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has dismissed a media report claiming that the Federal Government directed it to suspend enforcement actions on the regulation of sachet alcohol and 200ml PET bottle alcoholic products.

The agency described the publication as false and misleading, insisting that no such directive had been received from the Federal Government.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, NAFDAC clarified that it continued to operate within its statutory mandate and in line with government policies formally communicated to it.

Naija News reports that the clarification followed a report attributed to a statement allegedly issued in Abuja by the Special Adviser on Public Affairs to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Terrence Kuanum, which claimed the Federal Government had ordered a halt to enforcement actions linked to the proposed ban on sachet alcohol and small-volume alcoholic drinks.

However, the Director-General of NAFDAC, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, firmly refuted the claim, stressing that the agency had not received any instruction to suspend its regulatory activities.

The Chief of the Air Staff, Sunday Aneke, has described the recent failed coup plot against the President Bola Tinubu-led government by some military personnel as shameful, shocking, and wholly reprehensible.

Naija News recalls that the number of military officers and civilians arrested in connection with last year’s October planned coup against Tinubu has risen to above 40, with the family of those involved calling for leniency and a fair trial.

Aneke, during a strategic meeting on Wednesday with the Commanders at the Nigerian Air Force headquarters in Abuja, insisted that the military’s primary role is to support the civil authorities.

According to the top military officer, any personnel of the Armed Forces of Nigeria found guilty of undermining or attempting to overthrow the country’s democratic government would face the full weight of the law.

The National Coordinator of Obidient Movement, Yunusa Tanko, has dismissed claims by the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, that nine states do not have adequate mobile networks that would facilitate the electronic transmission of election results.

Speaking in a phone-in conversation with Nigeria Info FM 99.3, Tanko argued that if banks are working, then the electronic transmission of election results should be easy.

He argued that it is shameful to compare India to Nigeria, given that the former has a larger population and more landmarks, yet it can announce its election results in a day.

Tanko insisted that if the lawmakers are serious about conducting a free and fair election, orders should be given to ensure that there is network during the election period.

Nigerian actress Doris Ogala has claimed that police officers came to her home in an attempt to detain her after she spoke out against Pastor Chris Okafor.

Naija News reports that the actress shared the incident on her Instagram page, saying that officers had arrived at her residence.

She added that the visit was connected to her recent criticisms of the pastor.

“Policemen in my house. They were sent by Pastor Okafor to silence me”, she wrote on her Instagram story.

This comes shortly after Ogala publicly questioned Pastor Okafor about the paternity of his children.

Veteran entertainer Charles Chukwuemeka Oputa, popularly known as Charly Boy or Area Fada, has confirmed that he is not gay.

Naija News reports that in an interview with KAATRUTH, the singer explained that he lives openly and stays true to himself, without fear of judgment from the public.

The entertainer described himself as an open book, saying he has never hidden who he is.

He said that those who conceal parts of themselves do so out of fear, but he has always lived authentically.

He stressed that if he were gay, he would openly say so, explaining that he does not hide anything about his life.

Tottenham Hotspur have parted company with head coach Thomas Frank following a dismal 2-1 home defeat to Newcastle United on Tuesday.
