Wadada Faces Disqualification Threat as Petition Hits APC Secretariat Over Alleged Dual Party Membership

A legal practitioner and member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Nasarawa State, Barrister Tari Trochon, has petitioned the party’s National Secretariat, calling for an investigation into the alleged dual party membership of Senator Aliyu Ahmed Wadada.

Senator Wadada, who was elected to the Senate in 2023 on the platform of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), is reportedly being considered as the preferred aspirant of Governor Abdullahi Sule for the APC governorship primaries scheduled for May 21, 2026.

In the petition, Barr. Trochon, a member of Nakere Ward in Wamba Local Government Area, urged the party leadership to compel the senator to provide credible evidence of his resignation from the SDP.

“We demand an immediate investigation into Senator Wadada’s party status and that he be required to present verifiable proof of his resignation from the SDP. Such verification must come from the national leadership of the SDP and not through questionable documentation,” the petition stated.

The petitioner further argued that failure to establish lawful and exclusive membership of the APC should result in Wadada’s disqualification from participating in the primaries.

He warned that allowing the senator to contest could amount to endorsing illegality and expose the party to pre-election litigations capable of jeopardizing its chances in the governorship race.

Trochon also raised concerns over the senator’s alleged failure to formally notify the Senate of his defection months after the purported move, describing it as a credibility issue that could trigger legal disputes.

He added that there were indications the SDP might institute legal action against Wadada over his alleged continued association with the party despite claims of defection.

The petitioner cautioned that if urgent action is not taken, he may be compelled to seek judicial intervention to avert what he described as looming legal and electoral setbacks for the APC in Nasarawa State.

According to him, the situation presents “a prima facie violation of Section 222 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), Section 77 of the Electoral Act, 2022, as well as established Senate conventions,” stressing that such issues must be thoroughly examined.

“He should not be allowed to participate in the direct primaries, and we are prepared to approach the courts to restrain him from further involvement,” he stated.

The petition has been formally submitted to the APC National Secretariat, where it was duly received and acknowledged. A copy of the document was made available to our correspondent.
